Today India is one of the country
which is suffering from lot of pollutions. The pollution increases due to use
of conventional energy like petrol, diesel, LPG, etc. which directly affect on
human health, environment, etc. The sources of conventional energy are limited
and they are not economical.
So solution for this problem
is to maximum use of Non-Conventional energy sources like solar energy, wind
energy, etc. these are available in abundant.
Our
project deals with the solution for the above mentioned problem, Due regards to
this we decide to use the “Solar
Operated Bicycle “instead of conventional energy. The most important advantage of this bicycle is that, it helps
in maintaining the health of the person as well as pollution free environment.
Solar
operated Bicycle is operated on solar energy which available in abundant
quantity. When sun rays are strikes on PV cells ,it will generate electric
current. By using this electric current we can operate the HUB motor which
coupled to the rear wheel of the bicycle
.
Solar Bicycle depend on PV cells
to convert sunlight into electricity. In fact, 51% of sunlight actually enters
the Earth's atmosphere. Unlike solar thermal energy which converts solar energy
to heat for either household purposes, industrial purposes or to be converted
to electricity, PV cells directly convert sunlight into electricity. When
sunlight (photons) strike PV cells, they excite electrons and allow them to
flow, creating an electrical current. PV cells are made of semiconductor
materials such as silicon
and alloys of indium, gallium and nitrogen. Silicon is the most common material
used and has an efficiency rate of 15-20%.
A solar power system
generates power from the sun .Sun shining on the photovoltaic cells that make
up a solar panel generates an electric current. This current flows to a device
that regulates the voltage and current and also controls the charging of the
battery bank.
The batteries, like the solar
panels, provide an extra low voltage (ELV), or depending on system design.
(LV)
direct current (DC) and are specially designed to withstand being discharged
and recharged (a cycle). The number of cycles will dictate the life of the
battery. The power from the battery is either sent directly to HUB MOTOR ,where
motor will give power to the rear wheel according to the requirement.

2.3 Working:
Working of solar bicycle is very simple and effective.
Working of all components used for solar bicycle is as described below :
v Solar
Panel :
Solar panel is attached
at rear side of cycle. When solar rays are incidents on this panel, panel
starts generating energy with capacity of 40Watts per hour.
v Charge
Controller :
Energy generated by
solar panel is passed towards charge controller at which energy is controlled
and gives to the battery. Position of charge controller is in between solar
panel and battery.
v Battery :
Battery charged due to solar
energy as well as with the help of electricity. Two batteries are used with
specification of 12Volts, 7.2Amp each. Battery stored the energy obtained by
solar panel and this energy passes to the hub motor to run the bicycle.
v Hub
Motor :
Hub motor is attached at
the axle of rear wheel of cycle. This motor obtained current from battery for
its rotating motion. Hub motor of capacity 270rpm is used. Due to rotation of
hub motor cycle moves in forward motion.
